Founded by engineer Lars Engström and industrial designer Timo Engström in 2008, Engström is a small Swedish family company. We believe that music should be enjoyed through pure & natural sound. We think of our amplifiers as musical instruments, rather than tech gadgets.

CO-FOUNDER & CHIEF ENGINEER
Lars Engström was born in the small town of Lindesberg in central Sweden's mining district to an engineer father and fine artist mother. Curious from an early age about how things worked, Lars built his first tube amplifier at the age of 12. After a long engineering career designing radios, navigation equipment, microcomputer systems and most recently railway signalling systems, Lars returned to his true love in 2001 when he started work on a new tube amplifier that would become the critically acclaimed LARS.

Timo Engström is an industrial designer responsible for the Scandinavian exterior of Engström's amplifier family, and day-to-day company operations. Inspired by Scandinavian radio furniture of the 60's and 70's, Timo brings an elegantly functional aesthetic that makes the amplifiers unique in the industry.

PRODUCTION & QUALITY COORDINATOR
Okhan Vatansever is responsible for day-to-day production of our amplifiers, making sure every product is made to the highest standard. He is also a trained music teacher at Malmö’s Academy of Music.

Purity is what defines our sound. Research has shown that slight impurities in reproduced music – what scientists call 'grey sound' – irritate the mind and cause stress and fatigue. Using unbalanced circuits or less-than-linear amplification devices is where grey sound begins.
The best way to eliminate grey sound is to design a balanced circuit with a linear construction. All components are then carefully selected to support this linear process, like our silver-plated wiring and solder. We use zero negative feedback and distortion in our amplifiers, and listeners tell us there is an instinctive rightness to our sound.

Ihab Toma’s combined love of music and technology brings him to High End Audio shows on a regular basis. It was at the 2010 CES in Las Vegas where he first heard our LARS and MONICA amplifiers. Impressed by our sound and convinced of its potential, he became a dedicated client who later joined our board of directors. Ihab brings decades of executive and engineering experience to the company, and his active contribution continues to be invaluable in our pursuit to share Scandinavian Sound with the world.

Chakib Sbiti is a senior executive with extensive experience in the Energy & Technology sector. His career at Schlumberger spans over 30 years and took him from Field Engineer to Executive Vice President responsible for all worldwide Operations and Technology Development. Chakib joined our board of directors alongside Ihab as a fellow lover of music and technology, and now enjoys his AC/DC on Engström-driven sound systems.
